differently abled children tought me.
undertook the task of conducting a workshop of paper cutting art with differently abled
children I did not know for sure whether they would be able to handle scissors or not.
When colourful pieces of paper and scissors were distributed to these special children,
most of the children were visibly exited. They payed attention to my demonstration and in
the very first attempts produced beautiful paper lace cutting designs.
What surprised me that these children who may have serious difficulties in mastering
academic education, learn to make paper cuttings quite fast in a single minded manner.
These children through their work tought me the far reaching power of Art. I understood,
that instead of generalized education that may not be suitable for them, quite
sophisticated art can be tought in a regular manner.
I understand that regular art classes would not only give them more joy but would develop
their neuromuscular coordination fast and improve their overall motor skills.
Art is an expression of emotions, and differently abled children too have all the emotions
and sensitivity like any other people.
Presentation of creative art by themselves would generate confidence and greater
self-respect for these special children.
Regular creative activities may sharpen their artistic skills and sharpen their mental
abilities. The new world of art would develop with their personal styles and preferences
and widen the circle of their understanding.
These children in the workshop tought me about the power of art. They tought me that
completely by themselves they can create successful designs and with guidance and
opportunity in future can earn with their creative skills.
It is a long term project and needs quite a few years of dedicated work on the part of the
I held workshop with differently abled children before a few years ago and that workshop
was on stencil printing.
The joy of colours and forms make life more appealing for most people and these children
also derived great joy from the creation of colourful forms in different shapes.
I too derived great joy working with them, viewing them at their work and have the deep
satisfaction of conducting a worthwhile workshop.
